Swedish Marte Meo Society

Welcome to the Swedish Marte Meo Society homepage. The society is a non-profit association open for people interested in using the Marte Meo method.

The purpose of the society is to work for the Marte Meo method as a tool and promote the evolution and employment in different domains considering interaction and communication.

The Marte Meo method was originally developed by the Dutch therapist Maria Aarts.

"Marte Meo" is Latin and means "by own force". The method is based on how parents and children naturally are interacting, and how this contributes to the progress of social and intellectual skills.

The aim is to support and help e.g. parents to notice the needs an capabilities of the child. But also to recognize your own possibilities to respond in a prodevelopment way at the child's needs and to see your own possibility to interact with the child in a positive way.

The Marte Meo method is used world wide to support parents, teachers, pre school teachers and personell in the youth psychiatrian treatment sector, among others.

The video camera is used as a tool. Short sequences are recorded and analysed to discover what parts in the communication is encouraging some positive progress.
